Your dog and.....Nutrition.....A Natural Diet

<> Your dog and…..Nutrition – a natural diet. Dog food is a fairly recent invention. It has been available for under one hundred years. For thousands of years dogs hunted in packs and scavenged for themselves. They would have eaten sheep, rabbits, deer and birds! Fortunately, dogs don’t have to hunt their own food anymore. It is possible to feed your dog a natural, well balanced diet, without using commercial “dog food.” Many owners, who feed their dogs naturally, claim their dogs are fitter, healthier and leaner than their “dog food”-eating eating counterparts! THE NATURAL DIET The main components of a natural diet are raw bones, raw meats, liquidised raw fruit and vegetables. · Raw bones should be offered once a week to provide a workout for the teeth. This will help prevent build up of tartar, which causes tooth decay, and gum disease. Avoid poultry bones, which can splinter and cause a dog to choke. · Dogs should eat 100-150g of meat for every 10kg of their body weight. Pork meat should be avoided. · Dogs should eat 200-300g of fruit and vegetables for every 10kg of their body weight. · Cereals should not be given. · Cooked pulses, beans, nuts and herbs can supplement a proportion of the fruit and vegetables.
