Pet Care

Your dog and.....Bedding requirements

<> Equipment for your dog…..bedding Your dog needs to have its own space to rest, retreat and sleep. This does not need to be a big area; your dog should be able to lie down on its side with approximately 3-4 inches to spare either side. There should be a similar amount of room when your dog stretches out full length. It is important that your dog’s space is fairly quiet, warm and well insulated. Bedding can range in price from a few pennies to hundreds of pounds! Choose bedding to match your budget! A cardboard box Cheap and cheerful! Your dog doesn’t need an expensive bed or kennel. Just turn a sturdy cardboard box on its side and line with soft materials. Old items of your clothing are ideal, as they will have your scent on them. This will create a feeling of warmth and security for your pet. Cages Pet owners often perceive cages to be somehow cruel. In fact, they create a very safe den for your dog. Your pet feels secure within the cage and can retreat there for peace and quiet. They are also very handy for travelling with you pet in a car. Expect to around £30 for medium size cage. Baskets There is a wide range of baskets, ranging from rigid plastic ones through to designer baskets. Plastic baskets are easy to clean, but need to be filled with bedding to make comfortable. Designer baskets can cost several hundred pounds! Some top-of-the-range baskets are raised from the floor, making it less draughty for your pet! Cushioned Dog beds These come in all shape and sizes. Prices vary, but expect to pay from £30. Many of these beds are machine washable. You will pay more for duvets with detachable covers. These beds are very popular as they are very comfortable and well padded. Kennels Ideal for dog owners with plenty of space. An ideal kennel would feature an outdoor run for dogs to exercise and play.
