The Breed

With its deep red, silky fine coat, this gundog is the beauty of the canine world. It is athletic, strong and graceful. The Irish Setter was developed in Ireland from The Old Spanish Pointer. Once known in Gaelic as the “Modder Rhu” or “red dog”, it was also known as a red spaniel.

Exercise

The Irish Setter is a lively, playful dog and requires a high volume of exercise. It usually makes a good family dog and is gentle with children. However, it is not suited to city dwelling or a sedentary lifestyle. The Irish Setter also has a reputation for being a little hyperactive! he long, glossy coat requires regular attention to maintain good condition.
