The Breed
The German Wired-haired Pointer is a gundog which has been bred selectively from other breeds including Broken-coated Pointer, Pudelpointer, Short-haired Pointer and the French Griffon. It is an elegant, graceful dog for its size. To watch a Pointer at full speed is a pleasure to watch. The Pointer tends to be placid and gentle. It can be stand offish and aloof with strangers. It sometimes also has the tendency to take life a little too seriously! The breed makes a good family dog and is usually excellent with children.
Exercise
This breed does need a large amount of exercise every day and is more suited to a rural environment. It is not suited to city life and living in an apartment.
Grooming
The coat is wiry and come in a variety of colours; liver, black or either colour with white. The head is usually a solid colour and its body speckled with patches of solid colour. The beard is a distinguishing feature of the breed.
Health
The breed is prone to arthritis in elbow and hip joints, so select your puppy carefully.
