Caring for your German Shorthaired Pointer

This breed is also known as a Deutscher Drahthaariger and Deutsch Kurzhaar.

The German Shorthaired Pointer is a handsome gundog. Despite looking laid back and perhaps a little serious, this breed is very intelligent and easy to train. Despite its size the Pointer is graceful and majestic to watch when in full flow. The breed is suited to a rural environment and requires vigorous daily exercise. It is not suited to city living or a sedentary environment. Without plenty of exercise the Pointer can become stressed and even destructive. They are very placid and gentle so make ideal family pets.

Grooming

The coat is short and harsh and needs little grooming. An occasional buffing with a chamois leather will bring out a lovely, rich sheen to the coat.  Although the coat is short, shedding of hairs is a common problem.

Variations

There are four colour variations, Liver, Liver and White, Black and White and Black.
