The breed
The Airedale terrier is the largest of the terrier. It is sometimes known asking of the terriers” as it is thought that the Airedale can perform a task better than any other breed! It originates from the Aire valley in Yorkshire. It was created by crossing the Otter hound and the Old English Broken haired Terrier. Its first use was to hunt otters, water rats and polecats along river banks. It was also known as the Waterside Terrier and the Bingley Terrier. It is a very intelligent breed and has been used as a guide dog for the blind and also a police dog. As a family dog it can be unpredictable with children. It also can be stubborn, feisty and prone to confrontation with other dogs.
Grooming
The wiry, thick coat requires expert grooming to bring out the true beauty of the breed. Expect to pay £30+ for clipping and in excess of £80 for hand stripping.
